Digitally acquired aeromagnetic data

More than 300 digitally acquired aeromagnetic survey datasets (Fig. 1) are now available through the Geoscience Data Repository (GDR) for Geophysical and Geochemical Data. More than 160 of these surveys have line spacing of 400 m or less. These surveys were not included in the Canada 200 m aeromagnetic grid. The finer line spacing and lower flight altitudes captures more detailed information than the surrounding regional data (Fig. 2). The data are available in profile and gridded data form. Metadata for each survey are also available on-line.

The digitally acquired surveys can be found on the GDR for Geophysical and Geochemical Data in the 'Data Stores' frame under Aeromagnetic Surveys (Fig. 3). By zooming to an area of interest, the list of surveys can be limited to those within that area by clicking on the light blue 'Layers in View' icon above the Data Layer list.

Profile Data
Profile (or point) datasets for each digitally acquired survey are available through the GDR for Geophysical and Geochemical Data. The data are available for download in Comma Separated Variable (.csv) format. Geosoft database (.gdb) files for these surveys are available through the Oasis montaj Viewer software, a free download from Geosoft Inc..

Gridded Data
Gridded datasets are available through the GDR for Geophysical and Geochemical Data and through the Oasis montaj Viewer in a number of standard formats. Most grids are those supplied by the survey contractor and were used to generate the corresponding GSC Open File maps. The grids were interpolated from the profile data at a grid interval appropriate to the survey specifications, usually one-quarter of the nominal flight line spacing.

Metadata
Metadata for all digitally acquired surveys are available on-line through the GDR for Geophysical and Geochemical Data. The metadata include survey specifications as well as profile data field names and descriptions. To access the metadata, click on the yellow 'SPEC' icon at the left of each Data Layer name. The metadata records also include GSC Open File numbers of the published maps for each survey. Digital versions of these maps (bitmap and PDF formats) for recent surveys are available through the GSC's MIRAGE (Map Image Rendering DAtabase for Geoscience) application.
