Selected GSC borehole geophysical datasets are available, free of charge, for viewing and downloading using the mapping application. The data include various sensor types, metadata, images of geological and geophysical logs, and raw data.
These data can be viewed using LOGVIEW software, available for free download.
The data are provided as zip (compressed) files consisting of varying degrees of processed data, as well as image files:

1. Raw Data – This zip file contains various files including raw, binary borehole geophysical instrument output data.  It may also contain some preliminary processed data
2. Intermediate Data – This zip file contains partially processed borehole geophysical and ancillary data.
3. Processed Data – This zip file contains processed borehole geophysical data formatted for use with LOGVIEW software.
4. Images – This zip file contains images of the borehole geophysical and lithological data in PDF format.  The images are output from LOGVIEW software.

File Descriptions

          The majority of files in the borehole geophysical data layers can be processed with LOGVIEW software.  Full descriptions of file types, as indicated by the format of the file extension, are available from LOGVIEW. 
  
File extensions that can be directly imported into LOGVIEW include:

• *.AZ - ASCII file LOGVIEW ZY data
• *.AY - ASCII file LOGVIEW Y data
• *.AH - ASCII file LOGVIEW histogram data
• *.BZ -  binary file of data for given parameter
• *.BY - binary file LOGVIEW Y data
• *.BH - binary file LOGVIEW histogram data
• *.AL - ASCII file LOGVIEW lithology information
• *.LAN - ASCII LOGVIEW Annotation file
• *.PAT - ASCII file LOGVIEW pattern file
• *.LLL  - ASCII file LOGVIEW lithology lookup  (ASCII)
• *.LDL - LOGVIEW layout file notes
• *.SW - Binary file for LOGVIEW acoustic log or full waveform log (must be accompanied with *.SF)
• *.SF - ASCII waveform pointer file (must be accompanied with *.SW)
• *.LCV - LOGVIEW levels-colours file
• *.AFX - LOGVIEW ASCII file specification file
• *.DOC – various processing documents (MS Word)
• *.WP6 – various processing documents (WordPerfect 6.0)

         
Note:  LOGVIEW files with only two letters in the extension may have an additional letter (e.g. *.AZT, *.AZP) to help the user identify files during various stages of processing.

Metadata

Metadata required to process and interpret data for each borehole is available by clicking on the  icon on the data layer.
